Of Wolves and Sheep
It's starting to get dark outside, the sun is beginning to go down- not quite sunset but right before. I'm still scouting, this metal contraption thing I'm standing on is cool! It was two stories high, floored by thin sheets of steel, roof over it, a wall behind, open faced with a couple of man holes that opened to a ladder to go down like a firehouse, it seemed to be a bit of construction that has since been abandoned. Sort of like something you would see in a Call of Duty map but I have no idea what purpose it would've served in the middle of an empty field surrounded by a perimeter of the outlying forest. I want to bring my camera to shoot here and I'm all wrapped up in my creative process of figuring out what angles would work best when I hear a rowdy company of men emerge from the trees heading directly my way. Fuck.
I know better than to venture to barren places by myself but I really didn't expect to be here this late in the day. I'm now up on the second story of this structure starting to break a light sweat in nervousness from being all the way up here with no viable exit strategy. I crouch down and make myself smaller in order to look down both long stretches of ....nothing to hide behind. I only realize now that there's no way for me to quickly make a move without clanging my heavy docs on the thin steel and drawing attention to myself. Definitely don't want that...I scan my thoughts for what to do. I remain still, watching and trying to calculate odds of me laying down and being quiet in a corner, hoping they don't see me vs. making a run for it in my rubber soled boots.
They come closer, louder, I see that they're smoking, drinking, there's 6 of them; muscular, grown, no set collective of any one ethnicity. I look over to my left and I see a long metal pair of steel rods coming from the top floor down to the field below. Either I use that to slide to the ground or climb down a ladder, fuck it. They're about 50 yards away now, not noticing my presence yet, being rambunctious and disorderly as they continue their advance forward. Now or never. They see me stand up and start to wolf whistle in my direction as I noisily make my tread towards the rods, the sheet metal agonizing under my weight. They laugh and seemingly snarl in delight as they move in a little swifter now and closer to my approximation. My heart is pounding but I smirk in their direction, almost in a welcoming manner to their approach even though they are still at a distance. I get on my knees amidst the whooping and slide down to my shins onto my jeans using the dust for momentum, arms outstretched ahead of my body for balance, knees and ankles giving me some stability.
They move in closer, intrigued by my gliding nearer to them on the ground level. They surround the metal rods at the landing and I purposefully stop myself just shy of them to a halt with a grip of my hands, about 8ft before I would reach the end of the metal where they waited beckoning. I'm in the middle of the trap either way now, anything can happen so I let myself slip down in between the bars onto my feet sauntering forward like I own the joint while saying hello. I act completely comfortable with their presence, mildly teasing while they try to zero in on who I actually am, them thinking that they recognize me. I do my best not to show my anxiety, I try to show them interest instead, to which I can tell they were not expecting; it is the only fragile veil of control I can maintain while trying to mask my vulnerability. I take care with how close I get to each while paying acute attention to who's talking to me, who's not talking to me and who's watching me, keeping eyes on all hands and what they were doing. I play my role acting as if they are not foreign to me and in turn they treat me as if I'm familiar to them even though I can tell that they're unsure. I make it seem as if they stepped into MY domain and I have to work the playful energy while simultaneously sending out all of the right "I'm really one of you" type vibes. Each one is sniffing me out, one's entertained, two are curious and excited (I brush off someone tapping my ass), one has apparently been aroused (ew), one is more serious (watches the others observing me while taking no parts) and one, the youngest in the bunch, is very much interested in me... but more in a love struck kind of way, slightly nervous, a little softer. I breathe a sigh of relief that I have seemingly found the weakest link and relax a bit in the hopes of being able to escape this scenario in one piece. I bounce myself off of the others and plant myself purposefully into his welcoming arms.
I smile at him, lock my eyes into his as I run my fingers along his arms while I confess into his ear that he's the only one that I want attention from. He's not a bad looking guy, quite attractive actually but I know this is no dating game. He looks surprised and smiles wide at my profession, grabbing me tightly by the waist and telling me how i have his full attention before showing his strength and kissing me hard on the cheek. I hate that - but I smile as though I like it and further impress that I have an interest in only him. The others have gotten distracted by their own dialogs of bullshit, leaving the young one with a little space from them to chat with me on our own. They start to walk toward an old shed present at the very end of the field and despite my subtle protests the young one quickly drags me along trailing behind them with his hand firmly clasped in mine. It has become apparent that exiting is no longer an option for me while trying to build something of a bond in order to disarm him and make my escape. Running at this point seems futile as the other men are only a few yards in front of us- I'm fast but not fast enough to initiate a chase with 6 fully grown men in my heaviest boots though the middle of a field that leads into a forrest. He's vivaciously talking to me about whatever the fuck, following along in their path while I'm pretending to listen and checking the surroundings for an opportunity to depart if one presented itself. We walk for a distance while he complains about the struggles of being the youngest, stopping every now and then to fully look at me, stating how he's never met a "down one" like me before and blah blah blah whatever that means. I smile and try to relate as if I understand, coming from his same side of the tracks. I actually might have, but so far from what I've learned, the only thing we really had in common was our age. I'm unfortunately just a sheep in too deep with wolves, disguising myself within a wolf's costume.
Once we arrive at the run down shack, I'm hesitant to enter as he leads me inside separating our group, the two of us and the rest of them. I don't have much time to look around but it seemed to be a place with not much in it but a few pieces of furniture and a door leading into a separate room. The others start to sit down around a ransacked table and pull out some cards to start playing poker; an attempt to give the young one some privacy in the vacant room (even though they were jokingly threatening to "record it"). I play along and feign enthusiasm to have some privacy alone with him while the others allow themselves to be thoroughly enveloped into a game. My boots feel like they're made of lead as I follow him to the room, a distance from the rest with not much more present inside but a mattress on the dusty floor and a window too high for me to scale and climb out of. He closes the door behind us and becomes soft again turning toward me, like completely infatuated soft. He starts speaking to me with ambitions of us becoming like, the new trap couple or something like Bonnie and Clyde, relating to me his happiness in us having crossed paths. He leans in and kisses me while I look behind him to see if the door is locked, also surveying for any possible exits and he notices that my eyes are open. He abruptly pulls back from me and furrows his brow, "what's good?" I smile nervously and lean in towards him, locking eyes and almost whispering that I'm not ready for him to be completely physical yet, reminding him that we had only just met less than an hour before. He looks at me and weakly smiles unconvinced, wrapped in the moment while stealing another kiss. I don't pull back as much but I don't match his lip pressure, trying my best not to further excite or arouse him. He ignores this and shifts his kisses onto my neck while I continue in my effort of quietly telling him how it's getting dark and I should be heading out, ladden with promises of my later return. Meanwhile I notice the poker game sounds like its getting more lively and intense in the other room.
He stops kissing and looks at me defeatedly, feeling the sting of my rejection but I can still see the softness he has developed lingering in him despite his puzzlement. He holds onto me but not with the same strength, seemingly hypnotized by the fleeting fantasy of me being with him for real. I lock eyes with him and try to make up an answer to his inquiry as to when he'll see me again. I ask him to walk with me out so I don't have to walk home alone in the dark, feeling optimistic that he had at least a little bit of care for me to feel protective. Third base has been rounded...not there yet but almost home. He thinks about what I was saying and relaxes his arms a bit, allowing me to gently pull away toward the door only about 10 feet behind him. After a final thought I can see that he's no longer considering what I've said and has decided that he doesn't like the idea of me leaving, suddenly turning more aggressive.
He then pulls me into him even harder by the waist- sternly verbalizing that later isn't good enough for him before gripping my ass and thighs forcibly. I remain calm, carefully working on coercing my way out of his arms a second time when I hear the glass from a bottle smash. We hear the thudding of some boots accompanied by a more rambunctious brute stumbling sloppily through the door into the room shortly after, obviously drunken or high. "Oooo what's goin on in hereee..." He taunts smiling, holding a bottle and wobbling backward, also noticing the young one's grip on me and my resistance. "You didn't get that shit yet blood? What's the issue??!!" His voice booms to the young one, moving in closer to me staring intently and rousing the attention of the others still sitting at the table behind him- it goes quiet. "Na...she's tryna leave". His disappointed face looking through mine, more offended than anything. "Tryna leave?!? Where the fuck she think she's about to go??" He yells moving even closer to me while the other 4 start to stand up from the table and make their way into the room.
